The current average cart abandonment rate is a staggering 68%. As a result, retailers miss out on a great deal of revenue in lost sales every year. To help reduce cart abandonment, offer shoppers a discount or promotion to encourage purchase in real-time.

Consider including the picture of the product to remind shoppers of what's left in their carts along with a special offer and a message that creates a sense of urgency, e.g. "Checkout before it sells out".

How To Create This Playbook

1. Create a Targeting Rule

Create a rule to show pop-up offers to visitors who have at least one or more item(s) in their cart to incentivise them to complete their order. 

  1. Go to Target > Targeting Rules > New Targeting Rule

  2. In the Title box enter a Name for your rule.

  3. From the Criteria List, select the 

    1. Visitor define the number of items the visitor needs to add to their basket before displaying the pop-up, Basket Item Count - Greater Than - 0 


  1. Click Save to add new rule.


2. Create a Targeting Action

  1. Go to Target > Targeting Actions > New Targeting Action

  2. In the Title box enter a Name for your targeting action.

  3. Type '*' in the "Pages to be Applied" field to enable this pop-up on all pages across your entire site.

  4. Select "Show Lightbox" for the Type.


  5. You have different options to add Content to your Lightbox:

    • Simply Copy and Paste your own Lightbox HTML to the Content area. 
      OR
    • Select from the built-in Templates and update content with the Design HTML option.


  6. Select a Date Range for the banner to display.

  7. Find and select the Targeting Rule you have created above from the Target Rules list.

  8. Click Save to add new action.












Track and Measure Performance

This pop-up's effectiveness can be measured by tracking the revenue, conversion rate and average order value. 

See the metrics available in the Performance Dashboard (Target > Performance Dashboard) for campaign results.

You can also compare the engagement of visitors exposed to these campaigns versus control group will also be a valuable measure to understand the real impact.
