You can create customised rules (audiences) and save them to the Targeting Rules library for use in your Targeting Actions and Banner Displays.

Targeting Rules determine the audiences that are included or excluded from a Targeting Action. An audience can include multiple rules and each rule can include multiple parameters. Complex audiences use the logical operators AND or OR to combine rules and parameters to give you in-depth control over which visitors will be targeted.

When you combine rules or parameters with AND, any potential audience member must meet all of the defined conditions to be included in the audience. For example, if you define a location AND a browser rule, only visitors from the defined location and the defined browser are included in the action.

When you combine rules or parameters with OR, any potential audience member need to meet only a single defined condition to be included in the audience. For example, if you define a location OR a browser rule, visitors meeting any one of the defined criteria are included in the action.

You can target on any of several categories. Each category functions as a tab allowing you to create targeting rules for each category.

When a particular category is selected, you can apply one or more targeting conditions. Let's assume you want to target members from London celebrating their birthdays:

From the Visitor category, select Location = London, Is Member = Yes, Is Birthday = True.

Select the AND condition since the visitor has to match all of the values to meet the targeting condition.

After you have created a rule, click Save. You will be redirected to the Targeting Rules page where you will be able to see the new rule you have created.
